Let Mother Nature help you get Centered

When was the last time you woke up without hitting snoos on the alarm clock? For me, it was this past Sunday. For some reason my body woke up and decided it had enough, sleep that is. I looked at my phone and the time stamp was 6:40 AM. I know, as you're reading this you might think, that's late. Try getting up at 5 AM. For me, 6:40 AM is really early. The second thing I did was look outside to see what the day was like. I have an internal clock that says if it's dark outside, it's still sleep time. Sure enough, still dark.

Since my mind was wide awake, I looked up one more thing on my phone and that was when sunrise was scheduled. I figured, since I'm up, I might as well take in some nature. 6:57 AM sunrise. And so I went. I got ready as fast as I could, brushed my teeth and took a walk outside and straight to a pathway that was a minute beyond my doorstep. And that's when I saw it. One of the most beautiful sights of nature I've ever seen. It seemed like mother nature herself was calling out to me.

Good Morning!

All I could do was say good morning back. Nearby was a labyrinth made out of the rocks from the land (obviously made by man) next to what seemed to be volcanic rock. I've never spent time in a labyrinth before. So much that I had to look up the lab-y-rinth to figure out how to even spell it (no joke). It seemed that mother nature took me by the hand and told me what to do.

Walk around.

And so I walked around. The time spent walking around and back was unique for me. Two things happened to me.

  1. No thought- for the first 5 minutes as I walked into the center, there seemed to be no thought running around. I tried, but nothing came to mind. It was like my mind was blank. How disappointing! So many problems I could've come up with, so many new ideas I could've created, so many issues I could've worried about, and nothing.

  2. Gratitude- and just like that, as I circled around, all I could think of was how grateful I am for the life I''m given, for my wife and animals, and for the people I've been blessed with past and present.

The gift for me, was the moment it gave me to reflect. To take a look back from a bird's eye view and stay still in that moment. Having a moment like that will pay me so much more in dividends over the weeks and months to come.

I shared my experience on instagram that day. One of my friends made a comment that was pretty insightful. She said "You do see things in the morning, that you do not see any other time of day". So true! The same can be said about many things. Experience comes at the moment you experience it. No other time. I hope you take some time this day and others, to enjoy and experience in the moment, the moment you are currently experiencing.

Cheers!
